From Navirotel to Cap Nérée
The Navirotel: A Riviera Icon Sails Again
Nestled into the rocky cliffs of Trayas on the Corniche d’Or, the Navirotel stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and the allure of the French Riviera. Conceived in 1936 by the visionary architect Monsieur Hazebroucq, this unique hotel, shaped like a ship slicing through the Mediterranean, quickly became a coveted destination for the discerning traveler.
A Vision of Maritime Grandeur
The Navirotel offered its guests an unparalleled experience. Its 40 rooms provided stunning views, while amenities such as a restaurant, suspended swimming pool, promenade deck, solarium, boat garage, and a “stratospheric” dining room catered to every desire. The hotel’s innovative design perfectly captured the spirit of the Côte d’Azur, celebrating freedom, health, and happiness amidst the vast and harmonious natural beauty of the sea. It was a place to embrace the invigorating open air and bask in the glory of nature.
Interruption and Resilience
However, this remarkable prosperity was abruptly halted on August 20, 1939, with the outbreak of World War II. The Navirotel was transformed into a military hospital, its days of leisure replaced by the grim realities of conflict.
Following the war, in 1948, the Navirotel triumphantly reopened its doors, much to the delight of vacationers. For over three decades, it reigned as one of the most beautiful hotels on the Riviera, its iconic bridge and swimming pool becoming the epicenter of glamorous Côte d’Azur evenings during the “années folles.”
A New Voyage Begins
After 20 months of colossal renovations (September 2023 – July 2025), architect Pasqualini is restoring the majestic building to its former glory. With flowing balconies, woodwork, lush landscaping, and sleek railings, the ship’s prow once again appears to float above the waves.
In July 2025, the Cap Nérée residence will reopen, ready to welcome its first vacationers and embark on a new chapter in the legendary Navirotel’s history. The Riviera icon sails again, promising an unforgettable experience steeped in history and reborn for a new generation.
